The year is drawing to a close, but we have 1 more event: the Ice Cream Social! Here, we have cool, all outdoor games, a bouncy house, face paint, and of course, ice cream. It all takes place tonight (June 5th). You can help by bringing in a sweet pastry (probably cakes) for the cake walk or buy tickets to play games or buy food to raise money for the PTO. It all takes place from 6 to 8 on June 5th, 2015. Enjoy!

The fifth grade has done so much this year, in projects, in learning, in growth. All three classes have done so much, and so have the teachers. There is still a little more to come! We aren't done yet! Like the human body project, the fifth grade is beginning this. (On project page.) And the upcoming trip to Greenfield Village, and one more genre project. But after May, only twelve more days until the school gets out! We are going until the last week of school to get in as much time as possible! We will keep going until then!
In my opinion the M- step wasn't much of a challenge. For me the only thing that was challenging was the ELA that had 52 problems thats really long. Danielle, Mrs. J The M-STEP is the remix of the M.E.A.P but much longer and harder. It take some time but not a lot of time. For the writing part we had to write a 5 writing essay and it only toke 90 mins. but for some people it toke a lot of time. The people that had to have a to take a lot of time they had to come back and finish it.The test was very unlikely for some people because some people thought that they were going to the M.E.A.P but they shock me and the people. These are the name of the test that we toke there was Math,Social Studies, and the E.L.A which the E.LA stand for English Language Arts. by Kellyn, Ms. Moore The M-step is a replacement for the M.E.A.P. (why did they have to change which test we take?). There is a math, social studies and E.L.A. -english language arts- test. The test has a lot of rules one is that you cannot give nor receive help. The test has many test taking tools and the test has multiple choice, writing, and equation making answers for the many questions on the tests. Personally I think the test was somewhat boring and easy and preferred the M.E.A.P.
-Aiden, Mrs. J. The M-Step is confusing. The state changed the M.E.A.P. to the M-STEP, some people like it some don't. I personally don't know which one I like, both are really easy. We took the E.L.A, S.S, and Math. -Ali, Mrs.J In my On Saturday, there was an annual holiday called Pi Day. Pi is a mathematical number going in the order of 3.14.... The reason it was celebrated on Saturday is because is was 3.14.15. People are calling it ultimate Pi Day is because it is 3.14.15 and Pi goes 3.1415. It was an exciting day for mathematitcians.
Outside our classrooms there is construction for a new gym and seventh grade classrooms. The construction is very noisy and distracting (from the jackhammers) but 5th grade at STEAM can power through it. The construction is fencing off a lot of the school. Console.log [Hour of code]At STEAM we did, and we still are working on a website called the hour of code. We are able to use code.org to teach us coding skills (Which are very useful skills) and learn math while we're developing the code.
So far we have had one snow day, missing out on many exiting things. The forecast for today ( Jan. 12, 2015 ) is grey skies and snow, some more snow, and cold. Luckily it is not below zero, but we have a feeling it's not outdoor recess today or any other day in the week.
3D printers take plastic and use lasers to cut plastic into a certain shape. The 5th grade has had students who want to test a new 3D printer for the school take a survey to find out if they are one of the nine lucky students who get to test the printer Mr. Vanloo will take the nine kids down to the steam lab to use the printer. the 3D printers take plastic and use lasers to cut it into a certain shape.
A couple days ago, our school got IPads for our learning needs. A little later, our IPads were ready and we had time to write more about the Ipads themselves. While they were being set up, we tried to get the Ipads ready for the school year. As if on cue, the Ipads were ready in an instant. My favorite thing about the Ipads so far is that the way they can cooperate with the user very well. Right now all 3 classes are building a mini trebuchets after making schematic drawing. The mini trebuchets will launch light objects such as bouncy balls, paper clips, marbles, paper balls and erasers. Kids have been bringing in materials such as pencils, wood, tape, hot glue guns, string and rubber bands. |
